Anna Hoke, Owner | Well hello there August! Summer is starting to simmer down, although I don’t think it was ever hot enough to actually simmer with all the rain, wind and flooding. First, I’d like to wish everyone who is fishing in the Golden North Salmon Derby good luck! May the weather be pleasant and your catch be plentiful. Second, this is an especially exciting month and edition for Southeast Living Magazine. We are so excited to announce that this is the very first edition printed locally at Alaska Litho.
I’ve written before about the importance of supporting our local businesses, organizations, people and communities. It’s thrilling for the publication to take another step to insure we are putting our money where our mouth is, and more importantly putting our money back into the Southeast Alaska economy. Working with a local business like Alaska Litho really reminded me of the full circle effect that happens within the Southeast Alaska communities. There are more connections then you realize whether it be business, family, acquaintance and/or activity oriented. Every step of the way during this process seemed interconnected and a step closer to our goal and motto which is “striving to keep the communities of Southeast Alaska connected and to help local businesses prosper.” Printing locally has also allowed us to use more localized businesses for tasks we normally didn’t. As a result of printing locally we are using Alaska Air Cargo which we haven’t used before, which in turn means we are also using a local transporting business in Ketchikan to deliver the magazines from the airport to their distribution location, Coastal Real Estate Group who has been advertising, supporting and distributing the publication for over a year for us. As you can see, this process has had a positive and unforeseen ripple effect for other businesses. I’d also like to take a moment to recognize that many businesses and business people within this publication support and sponsor local sports teams, tournaments, and organizations that otherwise would not be possible, and beyond that some advertisers donate a portion of their income or commission to non-profit organizations, charities and/or other donation opportunities. We are thrilled to announce that Southeast Living Magazine for the first time is sponsoring a CCSL competitive women’s outdoor soccer team in Juneau; Team Southeast Living. I’d like to offer a round of applause to the communities of Southeast Alaska for your support and generosity. Not only for supporting this publication but for helping businesses grow and prosper, donating your time, energy and money for the greater good and thinking of others. This is why Southeast Alaska is a wonderful, warm (sentimentally of course) place to live.
